Abstract

A study on the structure of the megapode mounds built by the Philippine megapod (Megapodius cumingii) at Pulau Tiga was carried out during the month of November 2004. The objectives of this study was to determine the different types of structures of the megapode mound, found at Pulau Tiga. This study concentrated on areas such as at the abandoned area of the UKM research site and the Pulau Tiga Park office area. It took a period of five days to discover fifteen megapode mounds, using a local guide. All the mounds were measured to determine height, width, parameter and if necessary, the length as well. From all fifteen mounds found, all eleven were similar in shape as they all were dome-shaped. The other four were very different in terms of shape. A total of five shapes can be concluded. Thus all five were expressed using computer graphics to provide a better view of the mound and its structure from different angles. The angles provide readers with a perspective view, a top view, a front view and a back view.
