Abstract

This research was done to determine the effects of Effective Microorganism (EM) on the vegetative growth phase of dryland rice. This research took 2 months and 20 days to be completed and was carried out at Field Laboratory of School of Sustainable Agriculture. There were six treatments in which every treatment has three replicates. The treatments were different concentrations of EM [concentration of EM (ml) / volume of water (L) / area (m2)] which were 5.0 ml/L/m2, 2.5 ml/L/m2, 1.25 ml/L/m2, 0.62 ml/L/m2, 0.31 ml/L/m2, 0 ml/L/m2 (control). The parameters for the vegetative growth phase of dryland rice were leaf number, tiller number and culm height. Research outcome showed that EM treatment with 5.0 mlfl/m2 dan 2.5ml/l/m2 gave better result on vegetative growth of dryland rice in term of leaf number, tiller number and culm height with their means repectively 18.0 dan 19.3, 22.0 dan 20.7, 95.0 cm dan 99.7 cm. Through this study, it shown that EM treatment with concentration of 5.0 ml/l/m2 dan 2.5ml/l/m2 had no significant difference so the treatment that recommended to farmers and agricultural producers are treatment of 2.5ml/1/m2 in concentration which are more economic and this was proved statistically.
