Bauhinia variegata belongs to subfamily Caesalpinioideae of the flowering plant family Fabaceae or Leguminose which is also known as bean family. Common names for Bauhinia variegata are such as: Orchid tree, Mountain ebony, Purple orchid tree, and Hong Kong orchid tree. It is popular for its ornamental value in Msubtropical and tropical region where it is grown widely for its scented flowers. However, its flower buds are being consumed as vegetable source by rural population in Pakistan. In the present study, flower buds of Bauhinia variegata was investigated for its nutritional composition and mineral composition. It was found that it contains 16.01 % carbohydrate; 3.24 % protein; 0.15 % fat; and 3.34 % fibre. Besides that, moisture level was very high, which was 77.80 % while ash content was 2.81 % respectively. Micronutrients such as: sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) were investigated. It was found that calcium level was 61.53 ppm; sodium was 4.81 ppm; copper was 0.08 ppm; zinc was 0.38 ppm; magnesium and iron were both 0.61 ppm respectively. In conclusion, nutritional values of Bauhinia variegata flower bud indicated that when consumed as vegetable source, it may have beneficial health attributes and promotes optimal health. Therefore, it is recommended that Bauhinia variegata flower bud is consumed as vegetable source
