Precipitation is considered to be one of the main causes of interference impairments for terrestrial communication systems operating at microwave signals. Many rain attenuation studies were carried out in the temperate regions. These regions have different environmental characteristics from Malaysia, a tropical and high humidity country. The high rain intensity in Malaysia plays a major role in mobile communications design consideration. Hence, there is a need to study the estimation of the attenuation caused by rain, particularly focus on 8.45GHz (4G) systems to be implemented in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. In this paper, specific attenuation is calculated based on the general local guidelines given by the local service provider; the total attenuation can reach up to 46.319 dB at 8.45GHz system.
