Six Sabah fruits namely bambangan, tarap, pomelo, snake fruit, soursop, and dragon fruit were analyzed for antioxidant activities, total phenolic contents, and vitamin C content. The antioxidant activities were evaluated based on the three assays namely 2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl (OPPH) which measure the scavenging effect on free radicals, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) measured the measured the reducing ability of fruit extracts in acidic medium whereas β-carotene bleaching assay measured the ability of the fruit extracts in preventing the discoloration of β-carotene solution. Folin-Ciocalteu reagent was used to determine total phenolic contents while spectrophotometry method was used to evaluate vitamin C contents in fruits pulp. Pomelo showed good antioxidant activity in OPPH (0.46±0.10 mg/mL) and FRAP assay (5359.93±84.57 μM TE/g). Besides that, pomelo also contained high amount of total phenolic content (3.35±0.49 GAE/g) and vitamin C (2.83±0.59 mg Mig). On the other hand, tarap showed the lowest activity in all assays being tested. Additionally, tarap also contained the lowest vitamin C content and total phenolic content. According to the Regression analysis, antioxidant activities determined by FRAP and DPPH assay showed good positive correlation with total phenolic content (R²=0.97 and R²=0.94 respectively, p<0.05). There was also good correlation between antioxidant activities measured by FRAP and DPPH assay with vitamin C content (R²=0.83 and R²=0.71, p<0.05 respectively). Thus, the correlation indicated that phenolic compounds and vitamin C content was the contributors to the antioxidant activities of fruits pulp. In conclusion, fresh fruits pulp showed high potential to be utilized as source of natural antioxidant.
