Abstract

The research was conducted to determine the characteristic of dissolved inorganic nutrients in Sulu Sea coastal area. The area for this research covered from Lokapas until Jambongan and Paitan Bay area. Seawater samples were collected in June 2009. Dissolved inorganic nutrients concentration varied significantly depending on the study sites. The mangrove and bay area showed high concentration of dissolved Inorganic nutrients compare to areas located near the islands and open sea. At the mangrove and bay areas, the mean concentration of nitrate, orthophosphate and ammonia were 0.2086mg/L, 0.1952 mg/L and 0.1490 mg/L respectively. This is higher than the mean concentration recorded in areas located near to the islands and open sea. At the sampling sites near the open sea, the mean concentration of nitrate, orthophosphate and ammonia were 0.1456 mg/l, 0.1260 mg/L and 0.0802 mg/L. The statistical analysis for all sampling sites had showed that there were significant differences among the concentration of dissolved inorganic nutrients in the sampling sites.
