Abstract

An experiment was conducted at the School of Sustainable Agriculture laboratory in Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to investigate the effect of mycorrhiza of RHIZAgoldâ„¢ toward two types of oil palm seedlings, one is infected with Ganoderma boninense and another is not. The oil palm variety used was Dura x Pisifera and the experiment had run for ten weeks, and five parameters were taken which is length of root, palm height, root diameter, root condition and weight of palm at the end of the experiment. All results showed that there are no significant different between healthy palm and healthy palm treated with mycorrhiza. Another result also showed that the infected palm and infected palm treated with mycorrhiza also have no significant different. The reason might due to the age of oil palm seedlings that still depend on the food storage inside seedlings rather than depend on root, and the time for the G. boninense and mycorrhiza to show their effect is too short until the effect is not showing physically or showing no significant different results. Some recommendation had been made in order to improve the performance of the experiment.
