Abstract

The purpose of this research carried out is to study the style of behaviour between the principal leadership and the level of secondary school teachers' motivation in the district of Beaufort, Sabah. A total of 170 teachers were involved in this study. The instrument used to obtain an overall view of the teachers' perception of leadership style of the principal in school was obtained by using 'Leader Behaviour Description Questionnaire' (LBDQ) and the level of teachers' motivation was measured using 'A Questionnaire Measure of Individual Differences In Achieving Tendency' (QMAT). A total of 28 items in the questionnaire to measure the value of the relationship between the level of teachers' motivation. What is the perception of the teacher towards the leadership style of the principal in school? Is there a significant difference between the principal by sympathy dimension and the task structure in school? An analysis using Pearson correlation indicated a strong medium relationship between the principal and the level of motivation with a value of r = .394. The level of teacher's motivation was expected to increase to 39.4 % on the existence of a good and strong principal/ leadership.
