Abstract

The paper outlines the assessment of ecotourism potential for an oxbow lake at Sugut, in Sabah, one of the states in Malaysia. Ecotourism has been hailed, as a potential conservation tool by many countries and it is no exception in Sabah, where this niche industry has been progressing intensively since the 90s. With the concept of the ecotourism that focuses on conservation and safe-guarding the welfare of the local people, the study has focuses on the socio-economy of the adjacent village to the area, and then examine the potential of the area itself. The study found that the local community are prepared for the ecotourism to be established bu the area lacked of marketability in the ecotourism niche market.
