Abstract

This paper discusses the routing optimization for mobile ad hoc network (MANET), using enhanced genetic algorithm (GA). In MANET routing, the mobile wireless nodes suffer signal interference due to the existence of the other active nodes. For Wireless Telemedicine application, there exists a dense group of active nodes inside a small area in MANET, and scattered active nodes surrounding the area. The small and densely populated mobile nodes are at the center of the disaster area, in which less interference and less traffic is preferred. To alleviate the interference and traffic problem, there should be a method to route the traffic from and to the gateway without presenting extra load to the area, while maintaining the quality of the links from the gateway to the destinations within an acceptable level. Our approach is through gateway routing technique using GA, incorporated into MANET, hence the name GA Enhanced Mobile Ad Hoc Network (GA-EMAN). The result of our simulation in gateway routing of mobile nodes over GA-EMAN is presented. The results shows that the best alternative routes given by GA-EMAN can replace the conventional MANET routing protocol. ©2007 IEEE.
