Abstract

Studies on anti GSK-3ß, antibacterial and phytochemicals have been canted out on thirteen plant species from Kota Marudu, Kudat, Ranau, Pulau Mantanani and Tawau using water, ethyl acetate and methanol crude extracts at the initial concentration of l00mg/ml. Potential inhibitor were further partitioned according to the polarity of the bioactives namely as ethyl acetate, hexane, chlorofonn, chlorofonn-methanol, butanol and aqueous extracts. Yeast strain H10075 was used for screening GSK-3ß inhibitor. Antibacterial tests was performed on B. cereus, E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, S. pneumonia, and S. typhi by using disk diffusion assay. Phytochemical tests was performed using five types tests which were tannins, saponins, alkaloids (reagent Dragendroff's and Wagner's), flavonoids and terpenoids. The results showed that water extracts of 51M2 showed positive inhibition (7.10 ± 1.15 mm), while methanol (16.3 ± 0:58 mm) and ethyl acetate (17.7 ± 0:58 mm) extracts show a partial inhibition on GSK-3ß. For antibacterial tests, methanol and ethyl acetate extracts show more effective result to Inhibit bacteria. For methanol extract, KM01 inhibit E. coli, B. cereus and S.aureus with larger diameter then followed by KDT04 inhibit P. aeruginosa, KDT06 inhibit S. pneumonia and KM02 inhibit S. typhi. For ethyl acetate extract, KM01 inhibits E. coli with larger diameter then followed by KDT05 inhibit B. cereus, KDT02 Inhibit 5. aureus and KM02 inhibit P. aeruginosa, S. pneumonia, and S. typhi. Water extracts of TW01 show larger diameter to Inhibit E. coli, while KM02 inhibit B. cereus, KDT07 inhibit S. aureus, KDT05 inhibit P. aeruginosa and S. pneumonia, respectively. However, water extracts did not show inhibition for 5. typhi. KM01 were the best sample to inhibits all types of bacteria tested. For phytochemical tests, sample of water, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of 51M2 show no presence of tested compound because of degradation of compound that occur inside the extract. Meanwhile, phytochemical tests for KM01 show presence of tannins in methanol extract but water and ethyl acetate extracts did not show presence of the tested compounds because of the degradation of compounds inside the extract. In conclusion, sample S1M2 show potential to inhibit GSK- 3ß. Antibacterial tests for methanol extract and ethyl acetate show effective result compare water extracts. Methanol extract of KM01 show better inhibition of bacteria compare others sample and phytochemical reveal that methanol extract for this sample contain tannin.
