Abstract
In Malaysia, the production of freshwater prawn shows very low production compared to others freshwater species and recently the demand for this species keeps increasing. The low production might be due to slow growth or high mortalities rate In culturing of this species. There are many studies show the growth and survival of freshwater prawn was Influence by some abiotic factor such as water temperature. So this study was conducted to determine the effects of water temperature on growth, survival and water quality of freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii. The experiment was conducted with 4 different water temperatures with biplicate for each water temperature which is 26ºC, 28ºC, 30ºC and 32ºC. Water temperature was maintained by a set of heater and thermostat. 30 tails of freshwater prawn post-larvae were stocked at each tank initially. This experiment was conducted for 3 weeks. At the end of experiment, the best growth performance, survival and water quality of M.rosenbergii was shown at 28ºC except in ammonia analysis. However, there are no significant difference was shown at all water temperatures. It was concluded that all water temperature used in this study still in the range of optimum water temperature in culturing of M.rosenbergii.
