Abstract

This study examines the evolution of rhythm and blues (R&B) music from its early stages to contemporary styles, analysing how this shift has been influenced by a variety of musical genres, including gospel, soul, and hip-hop. Utilizing a systematic literature review and case study approach, this study meticulously describes the major stages of R&B music's development since the 1940s, with a special focus on influential artists such as Ray Charles and Beyoncé at different points in time. The findings reveal the uniqueness and global influence of contemporary R&B music and provide producers and artists with targeted theoretical and practical strategies for adapting to the evolving pop music industry. These strategies include adopting cross-genre compositional approaches and utilizing new media technologies to increase market acceptance. In addition, this study enriches the scholarly literature on R&B music, providing valuable theoretical and practical guidance for industry practitioners, and it has laid a foundation for further research on global cultural exchange and the dynamics of the pop music industry.
