Abstract
The location of study area is bounded by latitude 03° 20' N to 03° 15' and longitute 113° 10' E to 113° 05' E which represents the Nyalau Formation. The location of area studied is 12 Ian to 24 Ian from Bintulu town. central part of Sarawak and located along the Highway Buti-Bakam that connects between Miri and Bintulu. The study area is about 120km² wide. Nyalau Formation aged Oligocene to Miocene. Location stratigraphy of Nyalau Formation is between Formation Setap Shale and Formation Biban Sandstone. Nyalau Formation consists of two types of lithology, namely sandstone and mudstone. Three facies are distinguished, namely the Sandstone Interbedded Mudstone Facies (Facies A), Heterolitic Facies (Facies B) and Shale Facies (Facies C). Depositional environment of study area was estuarine environment which near to coastal area where the effect of tides is important. Carbon lamination, ripples, crossbedded structures, fme to medium grain size of sandstone with mud clasts and coal fragments are found. The direction of compression forces interpreted from the structural analysis is from Northwest - Southeast.
