Abstract
Motivation and attitudes are two elements that influence individual berhaviour and actions.In this research the researcher has observed the relationship between motivation and attitudes with regard to the achievements or as indicated by the students'scores in their English test.A total of sixty students who were taking economics in three secondary school In the District of Telupid have been selected as respondents in this research. The findings of the research points to a high level of motivation in learning English as the mean was 3.250. When compared between the sexes,it seems that motivation among the girls is higher than among the boys. With regard to attitudes the mean was below 3. This shows that the students have a negative attitude towards the learning of English.It was also found out that both motivation and attitudes were Inter-related as indicated by their scores and achievements in their English test.
