Abstract

Crop production under rainshelter structure is higher with fertigation. However fertigation system may not provide a uniform irrigation to all polybags affecting the quantity and the quality of the yield. This study seek to determine the relationships between fertigation uniformity and growth and yield of the ch11li (MC11 vanety). The MC11 variety chooses because that have high potential in industry and have high growth rate and production besides have high tolerance in pest and disease. This study was conducted under a rainshelter structure available in the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, University of Malaysia Sabah. The study lasted for 5 months from May to October 2016. The experimental design Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three (3) treatment and six (6) replicates. The parameters measure were emitter discharge per minute, growth rate such as plant height, and yield parameters such as fruits diameter, wet weight, number of fruits and long fruits. Harvesting was done ten weeks after transplanting into the polibags. Results showed that there was significant difference in the plant height and the fertigation uniformity until week five (5). Variations in emitter discharge in the fertigation system at each zone (treatment) are due to emitter clogging and pipe friction that reduce pipe flow and uniformity. The chilli plants were attacked by the disease and pest after week six affecting the production of the crop and resulting in no significants difference in fertigation uniformity and yield of chilli for all treatments. It can be concluded that non-uniformity of fertigation affects the growth and productivity of chilli plants. Research on pipe line without stopper at the end should be carried out on the next research.
