Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify relationships between the managerial competencies and employee performance with employee engagement playing a mediator role. The managerial competencies include a set of skills that is required by managers at workplace. This study employs five managerial competencies domains as the main skills that is being investigated namely conceptual domain, interpersonal domain, leadership domain, administrative domain and technical domain while employee commitment and employee satisfaction are employed as the predictor for employee engagement. This study was conducted among the employees of Private Higher Educational Institution (PHEI) in Kota Kinabalu with the aim to overcome the challenges being faced by the PHEI - the rapid downturn of PHEI. The result of this study may be useful among the managers of PHEI to load themselves with skills that are essentially needed to boost employee performance.
