Abstract

The poly(hydroxamic acid) chelating resin was synthesized from poly(methyl acrylate) grafted sago starch. The chelating resin was carried out by treatment with hydroxylamine under alkaline solution. The preparation of poly(methyl acrylate) grafted sago starch was fonned from the reaction of monomer methyl acrylate with sago starch. This grafting was carried out by free radical fonn on the C2 when eeric ion is used to initiating process. The purpose of this study is use of poly(hydroxamic acid) resin for metal ions sorption and recovery from electroplating liquor by using column method. The electroplating liquor were analyzed as nickel, chromium, zinc and copper. The binding capacity of sorption was pH dependent and following order Cu(II) > Ni(U) > Zn(II) > Cr(UI) is the selectivity of resin towards these ions. The metal ions on the column, which concentration affects is diffusion of metal ions through the pores of poly(hydroxamic acid) resin for recovery at pH 3 and pH 4. The higher diffusion of ions is copper at pH 3 and nickel for pH 4 compare to the other ions.
