Abstract

Adinandra crassifolia is a rare species of treelet recorded only from Tawai Forest Reserve, Meliau Range Forest Reserve and Ulu Tungud Forest Reserve. To date, estimated area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occupancy (EOO) are 12 km2 and 144.5 km2 respectively. Although the AOO may be larger with greater collection effort it is unlikely to exceed the boundaries of a threatened category. This species is recorded to occur in hill forest on ultramafic soil at altitudes up to 650 m, therefore, the most plausible threat that could affect the population would be forest fires. Currently the major threat to the species is land use change, with individuals outside of protected areas being at risk of conversion to plantations. The species is assessed as Endangered. Adinandra crassifolia is endemic to Sabah, Malaysia. It is restricted to Tawai Forest Reserve, Meliau Range Forest Reserve and Ulu Tungud Forest Reserve.

Item Type: Article
Additional Information: Adinandra crassifolia is a rare species of treelet which can grow up to 6 m tall. It is found on hill foreston ultramafic soils, at altitudes up to 650 m asl (Sugau 2005, Sugau 2008). Adinandra crassifolia is protected in situ in Tawai Forest Reserve, Meliau Range Forest Reserve, and Ulu Tungud Forest Reserve which are all in Totally Protected Areas (TPAs). There is no known ex situcollection for this species.
