Abstract

The main objective of this study is to examine the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and self-independent motive with students' self-employment intentions and also to investigate entrepreneurial supports as the moderating effect in the relationship between self-efficacy and self-independent with self-employment intentions. In order to do so, this study is taken to further understand the influence of self-efficacy and self-independent motive towards self-employment intentions among Science and Non-Science students in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). This research also investigates about the relationship between demographic factors and self-employment intentions. Demographic factors that were use are age, gender, entrepreneurial experience, family experience in self-employment careers and entrepreneurial education exposure. The target population for this study is focused on third and final year of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Respondents are required to fill up the questionnaire as the instrument for data collection. The questionnaire is included nine demographic items and 33 questions for section 2 to 5 by using the five-likert scale in order to get response from the sampling I unit. Findings for demographic factors shows that only entrepreneurial experience is supported on self-employment intentions between Science and Non-Science students and; age and exposure to entrepreneurial education are partially supported while gender and family experience in entrepreneurship are not supported. On the other hand, findings for self-efficacy and self-independent indicated that both are supported towards self-employment intentions. From the findings also, the study found that entrepreneurial supports do moderate the relationship between self-efficacy and self-independent with self-employment intentions. As for the conclusion, there is a Significant difference in self-employment intentions between Science and Non-Science students in UMS.
