Abstract

Tarap (Artocarpus odoratlsslmus) is one of the native and most delicious tropical fruit which can be found in Borneo. This fruit is an underutilized tropical fruit species which contains a high level of carbohydrate and total phenolic content. An experiment was carried out to Investigate the effect of feed enzyme on nutrient availability from tarap fruit waste on growth performance of broiler chicken. Fourty raw fruit were purchased and processed Into Tarap meals by utilizing whole fruit Four experimental diets were formulated: a control containing 100% commercial starter feed and three treatment diets (T1, T2 and T3) in which containing 5% of Tarap meal in T1, 7.5% In T2 and T3. T3 was supplemented with enzymes. Feeding trial was conducted in a complete randomized design for thirty five days, In which a total of sixty broiler chickens were assigned randomly to four diets. Feed intake, body weight gain and feed conversion ratio of chickens was determined for each diel Growth performance c:I experimental birds showed that, control was high In feed Intake, while T2 has lowest feed Intake. For body weight gain, control has high body weight gain, which is 26.10% while T3 has lowest in body weight gain which Is 24.15%. The lower performance of body weight gain in T3 due to the combination of tannin and protein because of the Inhibition of enzyme activities by forming indigestible complexes. For feed conversion ratio (FCR), T2 exhibited better in FCR, which is lowest compared to the others treatments which is 1.06 and the highest for TI, which is 1.24. The increased Inclusion of Tarap may have caused depression in feed Intake due to high crude fibre and tannin contents.
