Abstract
This study was done to show the fungistatic activities of microfungi from anurans collected from Bundu Tuhan, Sabah. From this study, five types of inhibitor microfungi which have strong antibiotic properties against other microfungus growth were recorded. They were morphologically identified as Fusarium sp. 1, Penicillium sp. 1, Paecilomyces sp. 1, Penicillium sp. 2 and Penicillium sp. 3. Two pathogenic microfungi, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans were also used in this study to test their inhibition properties. The commercial antibiotics such as Minocycline, Novobiocin and Oxytetracycline were chosen to compare with the sensitivity of the antibiotics produced by the mlcrofungi isolated from anurans. Paecilomyces sp1 isolated from Polypedates leucomystax, showed high sensitivity when tested against pathogenic microfungi, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. Aspergillus niger and candida albicans showed low effectiveness during tested with commercial antibiotics compared to the microfungi isolated from anurans. Thus, this study showed that the microfungi isolated from anurans at Bundu Tuhan have potential antimicrobial properties to inhibit human pathogenic microfungi.
