Abstract
This study is to determine the effect of pH and contact time with sorbent on adsorption of Cu (II) ions and to know the maximum adsorption capacity of Cu (II) ions by dried water lily leaves. Kinetic model on adsorption of Cu (II) ions was studied. Water lily leaves were used as biosorbent in batch adsorption experiment of Cu² ions with different pH. The pH 5.0 has higher removal percentage with 18.39% than pH 3.0,8.05%. From the study, increase of pH will increase the adsorption of Cu (II) ions. The maximum adsorption capacity, Qm was found at 16.23 mg/g. The adsorption model fits well for Langmuir isotherm assuming monolayer adsorption at the surface is uniform with no interaction with the adsorbed sorbate. Pseudo-second order model is better fitted into the adsorption model compared to other kinetic models indicating that chemisorptions is the rate controlling step of the adsorption process of Cu²io ns.
