Abstract
Pangasius hypophthalmus has been cultured in many countries. Nowadays, P. hypophthalmus seeds can be obtained in mass number by artificial seed production. However, the survival of P. hypophthalmus larvae remains low. This study was to determine the effects of light and continuous darkness conditions on the survival and growth of P. hypophthalmus larvae from zero dAH until 20 dAH. The research was carried out by applying light and dark conditions in three different stocking densities, 10 tails/L, 20 tailslL and 40 tails/L. The results showed the survival rate of larvae reared under dark condition was higher in all stocking densities range from 14.4% to 38 % compare to light condition. However, the growth is higher under light condition except for larvae reared in 40 tails/L; which larvae reared under dark condition is better. On the other hand, in term of fish production, all larvae reared under dark condition recorded in higher total weight ranging from 552 mg to 808 mg. Therefore, this study recommended that P. hypophthalmus larvae should be reared under dark condition in high stocking density for higher fish production.
