Abstract
Isolation and characterisation of total vibrio bacteria were carried out on shrimp sped mens collected from the two farms in Kota Kinabalu occurrence with the early mortality syndrome (EMS) outbreak. The vibrio strain were first Identified by mean of phenotypic method. However, confirmation on the identify of Vibrio harveyi and Vibrio parahaemolyticus was done using PCR and 16s DNA sequencing methods. Furthermore, histopathological analysis on the hepatopancreas of some selected shrimp specimen was also conducted. The results of the present study revealed that majority of the vibrio bacteria isolated from hepatopancreas of shrimp specimens from Tuaran belonging to Vibrio parahaemolytlcus. Meanwhile, It was found that majority of vibrio bacteria Isolated from Tawau were identified to be Vibrio harveyl The histopathological analysis further revealed that the hepatopancreas of shrimp sped mens from Tuaran farms were appeared sloughing and lacking of B-, F- and R-cells. Judging from the results, It is assumed that the disease outbreak occurred in Tuaran could have attributed to acute hepatopancreatic necrosis syndrome (AHPNS) white the outbreak in Tawau was likely due to common vibriosis. Treatment of disease in aquaculture is particularly difficult hence best aquaculture practices are seen the best option for preventing disease outbreak.
