Abstract
The lack of feed supplies had limited the progress of ruminant industry in Malaysia. Pellet from Sawit Kinabalu Farm Product (FP) was seen to have the potential toward reducing this problem. A feeding trial was conducted to compare the voluntary intake and digestability of it's feed. Six (6) selected Boer Doe (Capra aegagros hirrus) was divided into 2 groups of treatment and placed inside metabolic cage. The first group was treated with Sawit Kinabalu FP pellet, while the second group was given commercial pellet. The chemical composition was analyzed in order to evaluate the dry matter (OM), acid detergent fiber (AOF), neutral detergent fiber (NOF), and crude protein (CP). There were no refusal in goat feed intake during the trial. The result shows that there was significant difference (p<0.05) between Sawit Kinabalu FP pellet and commercial pellet where there is high intake rate of OM (880.3 vs 229.1 g daV-1), AOF (280.2 vs 101.0 g day-1) and NOF (443.2 vs 228.1 g day-1), respectively, except the CP intake (123.0 vs 94.8 g daf1) with no significant difference (p<0.05). The rate of digestion on the other hand, shows that there was significant difference (p<0.05) between commercial pellet and Sawit Kinabalu FP treatment for AOF digestibility (60.2 vs 51.6%), but not in OM digestibility (74.6 vs 69.9 %) and CP (90.27 vs 89.24 %). NOF digestibility of Sawit Kinabalu FP 67.6 o/o pellet treatment was much higher compared to commercial pellet 64.5 %, however without any significant difference (p<0.05). The changes of body weight also does not shows significant difference although average daily gain (AOG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) for Sawit Kinabalu FP pellet treatment was higher than commercial pellet treatment. It is concluded that treatment to Sawit Kinabalu FP pellet is capable to increase the rate of feed intake. However, the rate of digestibility for commercial pellet is more efficient despite of less total intake.
