Abstract
An informal sector is a group of producers or small traders or hawkers who are not registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and Local Authorities (PBT) where they produce at least one good or service for sale or barter transactions and the size of the workforce is less than 10 people. Informal sector traders are usually not registered under established laws. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the effects of the COVID-19 MCO on the B40 group in the informal sector based on secondary data from literature highlights. In Malaysia, the informal sector has been one of the most affected small business sectors throughout the MCO of COVID-19 implemented since March 2020. As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak that occurred throughout the country, especially in Malaysia, the government has imposed travel restrictions and the Movement Control Order (MCO) as a measure to prevent the chain of transmission of the COVID-19 epidemic from continuing to spread among the community, including the B40 group who work in the informal sector. Thus, this article is based on secondary data such as data and information from journal articles, online newspaper news reports, and official government reports. The main purpose of this literature review is to review and analyze past studies regarding the impact of the MCO of COVID-19 on small traders B40 in the informal sector. The results of the literature review found that the movement control order (MCO) of COVID-19 has harmed small traders in the informal sector in Malaysia and other places globally.
