Abstract

Gold has been regarded as the pinnacle of beauty, fame, and luxury in the sight of humankind. Throughout history, Gold has provided excellent long-term investment returns since the advent of Islam. In Malaysia, gold investment is available in three forms: physical gold investment, Gold Savings Account (GSA) or known as Gold Investment Account (GIA) and blockchain. However, the receptiveness of retail investors towards Shariah gold investment and the demand is still not fully understood and has been missing area for improvement. Moreover, it is typically a recurring issue that occurs due to the growing number of gold investment outlets to customers without clear guidance. Hence, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding towards receptiveness Shariah gold investment among the local folks of Sabah and Labuan. Furthermore, the current study employed the decomposed theory of planned behaviour (DTPB). Three Shariah scholars was interviewed to enrich the battery items to achieve research objectives which later 30 sets of questionnaires were collected for the pilot test. Following, the actual questionnaire was distributed in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Labuan via online and self-administered questionnaire. After all, 403 responses were usable for the data analysis using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) for descriptive analysis and SmartPLS version 3 for measurement and structural analysis. From the result, independent variables (i.e., subjective norm, perceived behavioural control, taqwa, descriptive norm, injunctive norm, self-efficacy and facilitating condition) were significantly affected towards receptiveness of Shariah gold investment. However, the independent variables for attitude, Shariah compliancy, knowledge on Shariah gold investment and perceived financial benefit reveals insignificant.
