Abstract
The objective of this experiment was to study the effect of supplementation of Ipil-ipil leaf on growth performance of broilers and feed conversion efficiency of broilers. The study was conducted at Makmal Ladang, UMS Sandakan from 21st October to 18th November, 2011. Forty five Arbor Acre broilers of one-week-old were used as experimental bird. The grower and finisher diets were supplemented with Leucaena leucocephala leaf meal at the rate of Tc=0.0%; Tl=4.0% and T2=8.0%. During the experiment, the chicks were offered ad libitum broiler grower and finisher diets in mash form from 14-28 and 29-35 days, respectively, with clean drinking water. Feed intake, body weight and feed conversion ratio were significantly different (p<0.05) during the treatment. Weekly feed intake was not significantly different (P>0.05) among all the treatment in week two. Weekly feed intake was significantly different (P<0.05) among all the treatment in week three, four and five. Body weight was not significantly different (P>0.05) among all the treatment in week two. Body weight was significantly different (P<0.05) among all the treatment in week three, four and five. There was significant difference (p<0.05) of feed conversion ratio among all the treatments. By observing the overall performances, it may be concluded that broiler chicks may fed up to 4% of Leucaena leucocephala leaf meal (LLM) in starter, grower and finisher because when 8% of Leucaena leucocephala leaf meal (LLM) was included, there were reduction of feed intake and decline of body weight.
