Abstract

This paper investigates the impact of bank's characteristics such as liquidity of the bank, expenses, overhead, saving and performing loan on bank's profitability, which is limited only on Net profit Margin in the Malaysian banking industry especially for commercial bank for the 2001-2005 periods. Using five bank level data out of nine anchor banks (commercial bank) in the 2001-2005 periods, this paper shows that differences in bank profitability reflect a variety of determinants: liquidity of the bank, expenses, overhead, saving and performing loan High bank profitability tends to be associated with banks that hold a relatively high amount of capital, and with large overheads. Other important internal determinant of bank's profitability is bank loans, which have a positive and significant impact. The main purpose is to investigate the relationship between the dependent and the independent variables that will be investigated.
