Abstract
Study carried out on the effect of acute toxicity of endosulfan on fish was done with the purpose to observed the time when the fishes dead. It is also with a purpose to observe behavioural changes and physical chartacteristics of the fish due to being exposed to the different level of concentration of the endosulfan. Beside that, observation also done to see the effect on gills and muscles of Oreochromis niloticus niloticus. Concentration of the endosulfan used are 0.1 µgL¹ , 0.5 µgL¹ and 1.0 µgL¹ . For 0.1 µgL¹ concentration, the average time the fishes died at the 58th minute. For 0.5 µgL¹ concentration, the average time the fishes died was at 49th minute and for 1.0 µgL¹ concentration, the average time was at 35th minute. There were many extreme changes occurred to the way they eat, breathing, the activeness locomotion and movement of the fin or paralyse when the fishes were exposed to endosulfan. It is definite that there are the effect to then behavioural, physical characteristics, gills and muscles due to the concentration. The higher the level of concentration, the effect are more obvious. Department of Environment enforce the maximum level of the concentration used for river is 10 µgL¹ But endosulfan concentration at 0.1 µgL¹ ,0.5 µgL¹ and 1.0 µgL¹ have caused a very serious effect on Oreochromis niloticus niloticus.
