Abstract
The accumulation of Pb, Zn, and Cu was evaluated in mangrove sediments located at Kg. Weston, Sipitang and Menumbok of Brunei Bay (southwest Sabah). The first 10cm depth of sediment from surface is analysed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The objectives of this study are to determine the concentration of Pb, Cu and Zn in mangrove sediment and to know the status of pollution by comparing the data with the Maximum Contaminant Level (MeL) in drinking water. The highest concentration of each analyse metals recorded for Kg Weston is Pb; 0.200mg/L, eu; 0.239mg/L and Zn; 0.812mg/L. For Sipitang the highest concentration recorded for Pb is 0.241 mg/L, eu; O.278mg/L and Zn; 0.870mg/L. While at Menumbok, highest Pb concentration recorded is O.l42mg/L, eu; 0.091mg/L and Zn; 0.742. Overall the concentrations for eu and Zn are below the MeL except for Pb where the availability of it itself already shows that the area is polluted.
