Abstract
The subject of traditional Baba's residential interior is many faceted and reflects the long continuous cultural development throughout the nearly several hundred years of Baba-Nyonya's history. It is perhaps because the notion of interior decoration is combine the West and Eastern style in their concept that the subject has not been approached with any comprehensive study to date. Perhaps, too, it is because the romantically idealized view if a traditional Baba-Nyonya's interior differs so vastly from that of the general Baba-Nyonya's populace. A focused study of the Baba-Nyonya's interior design aspects embraces the important relationships that is related to the development of this community, and the decorative accessories in a Baba-Nyonya's home. This introductory survey will touch upon these various factors such as furniture development, foreign influence and decorative accessories to understand better how traditional Baba-Nyonya's interiors fit into the concept of interior design.
