Abstract
This research is to determine natural frequency for system of spring-mass by using MQR and MQL methods. In this research, MQR and MQL methods were used to compute eigenvalues and developed via using MathCad®. This research is to verify whether MQL method is better compared to the MQR method in solving eigenvalue problems in terms of number of iterations, computational time and maximum absolute error for the different size of matrices. The matrices tested for these two methods are real symmetrical and dense matrices. In this research, different sizes of matrices were used from 32, 64, 128 and 256 to compute the eigenvalues for both methods. Based on numerical results, it has been shown that the MQL method is a better iterative method compared to MQR method in terms of number of iteration, computational time and maximum absolute error.
