Abstract

Education is a key driver of nation building. Education plays vital role in economic and social development. Higher education enable creation of larger pool of talent human capital. Lecturers plays important roles in every education institutions. Lecturers are backbone for every institutions. However, there is high turnover rate among lecturers in private higher education institutions. High turnover rate occur is due to there is high turnover intention among lecturers and this circumstance definitely give negative impact to education industry. Hence, this study aim to examine the relationship between training, performance appraisal and turnover intention among lecturers in private higher education institutions in Kata Kinabalu, Sabah with mediating role of employee engagement. Quantitative approach has been used in this study. The target population of this study is lecturers of private higher education institutions in Kata Kinabalu, Sabah. The data collected was analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 21 (SPSS) and Smart PLS 2.0. This study found out that employee engagement have mediating effect on the relationship between training and turnover intention. Besides, employee engagement also implies mediating roles on the relationship between performance appraisal and turnover intention.
