Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that influence knowledge sharing intention among students in higher institutions. In this study, mediator variable (attitude toward knowledge sharing) is responsible to mediate effect the relationship between the independent variable (trust, anticipated reciprocal relationship and willingness to share knowledge) and dependent variable (knowledge sharing intention). A total 284 respondents were collected in public and private higher institutions and data are used for the statistical analysis. Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS20) and Smart Partial Least Square version 2 (SmartPLS2) were used for data analysis. The results show that trust and anticipated relationship have positive relationship with attitude toward knowledge sharing. Meanwhile, willingness to share knowledge has negative relationship with attitude toward knowledge sharing. The attitude toward knowledge sharing has positive relationship with intention to share knowledge. On the other hand, attitude shows mediation between anticipated reciprocal relationship, willingness to share knowledge and intention to share knowledge. Unfortunately, attitude shows no mediation between trust and intention to share knowledge. Based on this finding, university management should expose students to the sharing concept during learning period and at the same time it can creates culture that conducive to knowledge sharing to prevent the students from hoarding their knowledge.
