Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between students' perception of the role of a English native speaker (Project English Teacher) and students' motivation to speak English in the classroom. There were 30 respondents involved in this study and all of them. were Form 2 students who been taught by the English native speaker since they were in form one. The data collection was done using a questionnaire which was adopted and adapted from other researches conducted by Callahan (2006) and Lasagabaster & Sierra (2002). Besides that, 6 out of the 30 respondents were interviewed to gain extra information to support the data collected through the questionnaire. The method that was used to analyse the data was descriptive analysis using percentage and mean, and inferential analysis using Pearson r and Manova. The correlation significance was set at p< 0.05. The findings of this research indicated that there is a relationship between students' perception of the role of English native speakers and their motivation to speak English in the classroom.
