Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the principals leadership style and job satisfaction according to teachers' in secondary schools in state of Sabah. Four dimensions of leadership style and two dimensions of job satisfaction are applied in this study. The four dimensions of leadership style are directive leadership/ supportive leadership, participative leadership and achievement-oriented leadership/ while two dimensions of job satisfaction are motivational and hygiene factors. The specific objectives of this study are: 1) To identify the type of leadership style adopted by the principal. 2) To identify the level of job satisfaction among the teachers. 3) To determine whether there is a significant difference between the principals leadership style and job satisfaction among the teachers. The instruments of 'Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire' {LBDQ) and 'The Minnesota Satisfaction QuestionnairerMSQJ are used in this study. A total of 112 teachers have been selected as respondents. Mean t-test Pearson Correlation and ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The results indicated that the dominant leadership styles being practiced by the principals were the supportive leadership and the level of teachers job satisfaction were found to be high. The result of this study also shows that there was a significant relationship between the leadership style being practiced by principals and job satisfaction of the teachers. This indicates that leadership style being practiced by principals had an impact on job satisfaction among the teachers. Based on the findings, several recommendations were suggested.
