Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the effectiveness of using Game in terms of students' performance in grammar, especially in differentiate present simple and present continuous tense. This study was carried out in a rural secondary school, SMK Bongawan, Papar.. A total of 26 students have been selected to be the sample of this study. Tests and open-ended questionnaires have been used as instruments to collect data. Because this is an action research, so focus of the researcher is to solve the problem faced by the students. Other than game, researcher also used two different techniques; authentic text and scripted dialogue, to achieved the purpose of this study. Students' performance in achievement test which has been conducted at the end of the research shows an improvement than their mark in diagnostic test. Therefore, it can be conclude that the use of game and texts in grammar teaching and learning has beneficial effects on students' performance and attitude.
